In “A New Culture of Learning”, Brown and Thomas share their beliefs about the value of play and importance of cultivating imagination. These beliefs are parallel to those of Maria Montessori. The Montessori principles have always been a part of my philosophy of education but I found that when teaching beyond the primary years these principles were often lost. Brown and Thomas strongly believe that play and imagination always have a role in the learning process, which I completely agree with! “Connecting play and imagination; the most important step to unleashing a new culture of learning!” Thomas explains how one of the most important learning skills of the 21st century is play!” We, as educators, are responsible for creating environments that encourage play, cultivate imagination, and invoke students to question. “Questions are more important than answers… The world is changing too quickly therefore answers become obsolete.” Questions should provoke more questions and lead to further discovery and learning.
